Scottsdale Unified School District Honors Dedicated Employees and Retirees at Annual SHIO Even

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (May 16, 2024) – In Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD), our commitment is simple: everything we do is "because kids." Annually, SUSD takes the opportunity to express gratitude to its employees for their unwavering dedication to our students and community. It is these individuals who truly set Scottsdale apart as a district of excellence.

“Scottsdale Honors Its Own” (SHIO) is a cherished SUSD celebration that pays tribute to employees who have been part of the district for five or more years. This year, it was with immense gratitude and appreciation that we gathered on May 2 at the Mohave District Annex to honor those who are celebrating major milestones of 20, 25, and even 30 years of service this school year. Remarkably, SUSD can boast of employees who have dedicated more than 40 years to the district, demonstrating their enduring commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of our students.

"We are incredibly fortunate to have such dedicated and passionate individuals as part of the SUSD family," said Dr. Scott Menzel, Superintendent of Scottsdale Unified School District. "Their unwavering commitment and tireless efforts make a profound difference in the lives of our students and schools. From maintaining facilities, to teaching, to transporting and feeding students, there are many people who work together every day to ensure our students' success."

In addition to honoring long-serving employees, the event also celebrated the retirement of 79 employees who, collectively, have contributed more than 1,458 years of service to SUSD. These individuals have dedicated their professional careers to inspiring, challenging, and supporting students in their academic endeavors, leaving a lasting legacy within our district.

The annual SHIO event serves as a testament to the dedication and passion that permeates throughout SUSD. It is a time to express gratitude for the remarkable contributions of our employees and to celebrate their unwavering commitment to the success of every student.
