    SUSD to Host Information Fair on Post-High School Special Education Services

    SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (February 28, 2024) – Families and caregivers seeking information about community services and education options for special education students after high school are invited to attend an information fair next week, hosted by Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD).

    The Transition Fair takes place Thursday, March 7, from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. in Room 222 of Scottsdale Community College’s (SCC) Indigenous Cultural Center, 9000 E. Chaparral Rd., Scottsdale. SCC is the new home of SUSD’s Special Education SCORE program, which provides vocational training opportunities to young adults with disabilities up to the age of 22.

    Desert Canyon Elementary School Named AEF® A+ School of Excellence®

    SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (February 16, 2024) – The Arizona Educational Foundation® has named Scottsdale Unified School District’s Desert Canyon Elementary School as one of its 2024 A+ Schools of Excellence®.

    The starting point of Scottsdale Unified’s optional Mandarin Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program, Desert Canyon is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.

    Principal Kim Mills says the school is all about community.  “We are proud of our inclusive, close-knit family and the robust support and engagement we receive from our community,” she says.  “We foster a sense of community and inclusivity as students from diverse linguistic backgrounds come together to learn, grow and become proficient in a second language.”

    It was 13-year-old Nina Bhatia who emerged as the champion of the January 19 Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD) Spelling Bee, spelling the word “indemnity” correctly.

    Among the words she also had to spell were “megaron,” “coccidiosis” and “innards.” How did the Cocopah Middle School eighth grade student prepare for the 2024 Bee? “For the easier words, I usually just skimmed over them and made sure I practiced them,” said Bhatia.

    Dr. Battinto Batts Jr. was the keynote speaker yesterday at the 24th annual MLK Youth Voices program at Saguaro High School, part of the City of Scottsdale Community Celebrating Diversity’s 2024 events commemorating the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

    Leap Ahead in January for SUSD’s 2024-2025 School Year

    SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (December 20, 2023) – The holiday season may be upon us, but Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD) is already planning ahead for the 2024-2025 school year, with multiple opportunities available in January for families with young learners.

    Parents who will be enrolling first-time students can get them off to the perfect start with SUSD’s Community Education programs. The district’s learning opportunities cater to the unique needs of 2-year-olds, preschoolers and pre-kindergarten students. Priority online registration for SUSD early learning programs runs from January 10 – 17, 2024, but registrations will continue to be accepted after that.
