Pueblo Elementary School

Pueblo is the sixth, and last, Scottsdale Unified School District campus to be rebuilt using voter-approved 2016 Bond Funds.

In partnership with BWS Architects, McCarthy Building Companies, Principal Shelley Hummon and a Visioning Committee comprised of Pueblo staff, parents and community members, the new Pueblo Elementary School will replace six slump block and concrete tilt-up buildings dating to 1971.

With the HVAC, electrical, and roofing systems having surpassed their operational life expectancy, campus flooding issues and challenging student drop-off/pick-up traffic, the design team, construction team and Visioning Committee have made the unanimous decision to tear down the current buildings and rebuild on Pueblo’s 15.6 acres located just north of Saguaro High School on 82nd Street in Scottsdale.

A design proposal will be taken to the SUSD Governing Board in Spring 2022.

Pueblo Visioning Committee

This committee is comprised of Pueblo parents, neighbors, teachers and staff. The application to join the visioning committee at Pueblo was open and available electronically on May 5th, 2021 and was due on May 12, 2021.  Members were notified of their selection and appointment to the committee on May 14, 2021.

The application link was sent to the entire staff, faculty, and parent community and was posted to the Pueblo webpage. Additionally, Principal Hummon asked faculty and parents who are direct Pueblo neighbors to please assist in notifying any community members (who are not currently associated with the school) such that they were informed of the opportunity to participate. The announcement to apply stated that approximately 25 members would be selected. As it turned out, everyone who applied was chosen to participate.

Prior to the first visioning committee meeting, date/time notice was provided on the marquee, webpage, and announcements were made to the students and staff by Principal Hummon. The first visioning committee meeting was held at Pueblo on Tuesday May 18, 2021 from 3:30 to 5PM.
