How did SUSD prepare you for success?

"I came to Scottsdale for my sophomore year and graduated in the top 2% of my class at Coronado High School. I was President of the Honor Society and a member of the Don's Band. I think my teachers did a good job of encouraging independent work and self-discipline, which helped me at ASU, where classes were huge and you were left to your own to succeed or fail."

SUSD Schools Attended:

Navajo (K-8), Scottsdale High School, Saguaro High School

Graduated: 1985

How did SUSD prepare you for success?

"I attended SUSD schools from kindergarten through 12th grade. I look back fondly on the incredible educational experience. Every step of the way, the teachers and administrators guided me. Principals Flemming and Polk at Navajo led by example. Mrs. Caskey at Scottsdale High knew every student by name and greeted us warmly. Principal Hendricks welcomed all of us from Scottsdale High who inundated Saguaro after Scottsdale High closed. I had so many opportunities to participate in extracurricular activities, from track and field at Navajo, student government, high school wrestling and football, and the Saguaro Ski Club. But the teachers made the biggest impact. Mr. Stewart and Mr. Dant taught me how to write, which allowed me to succeed in college, law school, and as a lawyer. Guidance counselors Paluch and Mueller were amazingly helpful in selecting a college. Nancy Walker, Bill Jenkins and Lois Fitch taught me leadership skills in student government. Thank you, SUSD."
