New U of A Summer Program
upcoming deadline for the University of Arizona’s Arabic Jumpstart program for high school students. We offer high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors the opportunity to participate in an intensive Arabic summer course on campus for college credit through the Jumpstart Arabic Program. The deadline for our summer 2018 program is April 27th. Please consider distributing this information to your students as it is an excellent opportunity to study a new language, develop existing language ability, or get an introduction to university level studies.
Through this program, high school students are able to complete up to two semesters (10 credits) of Arabic coursework through intensive study over the summer. In addition to daily classes, students will have access to personalized tutoring, conversation practice with language mentor, and exposure to the culture through cultural games, movies, and activities. This summer, the program will also have housing available for students who choose to live on campus with Arabic-speaking residence mentors.
The entire program runs from early June, to early August. During the first session, students learn to read and write in Arabic, introduce themselves, and describe basic aspects of their life. The second session delivers Arabic 102 and builds upon the coursework of the first semester. For students who resume their high schools studies before the scheduled program end date, arrangements will be made for them to finish their coursework early.
Applications for the Jumpstart program are due on April 27th. The application can be found at https://uarizona.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_8hTzWFDK1ywvihT and is both an application into the program and for financial aid to cover program costs. Students will be notified of acceptance into the program and if they qualify for scholarships by May 7th. Students will need to fill out all three sections of the application before being accepted into the program.
