Transition Fair for Special Education Students to Be Held on Feb. 27
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (Feb. 5, 2019) – Special education students and their families are invited to a fair being held on Feb. 27 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Coronado High School, 7501 E. Virginia, to learn about the wide variety of programs and services available to help the student transition from school into adulthood.
The fair features many agencies and organizations in one place so that families, caregivers and students can learn about the options that exist for special education students to further their education, train for and enter into the workforce as well as options for housing, public transportation, and health services.
“We know that when educators, families, students, and community organizations work together, special education students are more successful,” said Margaret Rehberg, Executive Director of Special Education at the Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD). “This fair is one of the many ways we establish a lasting and strong support system beyond the classroom to ensure that students reach their full potential.”
Attendees also can learn about the SUSD’s innovative program for young adults with differing abilities to remain in an educational environment past grade 12 to learn additional life and vocational skills. The fair focuses on career exploration, introduction to independent living as well as social and life skill lessons.
