Scottsdale Unified Schools Make the Grade
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (Nov. 1, 2019) - With the release of the Arizona State Board of Education 2019 letter grades, Scottsdale Unified School District reports that 27 of its 29 schools, or 93%, earned an A or B rating. The state’s A-F Accountability System provides a formula-based approach to assessing Arizona’s schools and student academic growth, based on Arizona Revised Statute §15-241.
Sixteen schools maintained their A rating, while three schools improved their ratings by a letter grade. Included in the letter-grade growth is Coronado High School, which raised its grade from a C in 2018 to a B in 2019. Desert Canyon and Ingleside Middle schools also are on the list of schools achieving higher marks, improving their letter grades from B’s to A’s this year.
“In our continuous efforts to structure District resources to best support student learning, last year, we made the decision to tap the expertise of Tavan Elementary School Principal Margaret Serna at the District office,” said Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education Dr. Ibi Haghighat. “In her new role, we have tasked Ms. Serna to work with principals of our Title I-designated schools to duplicate the successes of the District’s 18 A-rated schools.”
The state’s A-F letter grade system measures year-to-year student academic growth; proficiency on English language arts, math and science; the proficiency and academic growth of English language learners; high school, career and higher education readiness; and high school graduation rates.
