New Look for Future SUSD School-Year Calendars
Parents looking to make plans during the next two school years now have a newly re-designed resource to consult. Dates on the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD) school-year calendars have not changed – only the design of the information has been updated. The current and newly redesigned upcoming school-year calendars are available online at susd.org/calendar.
“We have received really positive reviews on the new calendars, including comments that the updated design is easier to use,” said Amy Bolton, SUSD’s Chief Information and Marketing Officer, whose department is charged with maintaining the calendars and district website. “Based on a recent community survey, we have added a second page to each calendar to incorporate a complete school directory that contains some of the most requested information. Now you’ll find every school’s phone number, website shortcut and bell times in one handy reference.”
Several factors play a role in determining school-year calendars, including state instructional day requirements, community needs and professional development obligations. District administrators work together with community members, teachers and staff on the meticulous details that need to be considered before a final calendar is approved by the Governing Board.
Important dates SUSD families should keep in mind:
2018-2019 School Year: August 2018 – May 2019
- The last day of school for the current school year is May 30, 2019.
- High school graduation for the Class of 2019 will also take place on May 30, 2019.
2019-2020 School Year: August 2019 – May 2020

The calendars also denote early release days for parent-teacher conferences, and collaborative professional development for teacher and staff that translates into results in the classroom and improved student outcomes.
As a reminder, school bell and early release times can be found on each school’s website at susd.org/schools, as well as on the back of the updated 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 calendars, found at susd.org/calendar.
