Self-Insurance Risk Retention Trust
What is the Self-Insurance Trust (SIT)?
The Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD) Governing Board established a revised Self-Insurance Trust (SIT) on
May 14, 2019. The SUSD Self-Insurance Trust encompasses employee benefits, property/casualty, and worker’s compensation insurance as authorized by ARS 15-382.
How is the Self-Insurance Trust Governed?
The SUSD Self-Insurance Trust is governed by individuals appointed by the SUSD Governing Board. The SUSD SIT board approves expenditures paid by the trust to various vendors for all aspects of the insurance program. These entities include, but are not limited to, Kairos Health Arizona for health insurance, The Alliance for worker’s compensation, and the Arizona SchoolRisk Retention Trust for property/casualty insurance.
What is the Arizona School Risk Retention Trust (ASRRT) ?
The Arizona School Risk Retention Trust (ASRRT) is an outside organization that pools funds from multiple School Districts throughout the State. Funds paid to the Arizona School Risk Retention Trust are the District’s insurance payment for property casualty insurance. Workman’s compensation insurance is procured through The Alliance, and employee benefits to Kairos Health Arizona.
What is the Difference Between the Two Entities?
The SUSD Self-Insurance Trust (SIT) oversees all District insurance programs and is an entity of SUSD. It purchases certain types of insurance through other pooled insurance trusts. The Arizona Risk Retention Trust (ASRRT) is its own separate entity leveraged by SUSD to help reduce the risk of self-insurance.
