SUSD's Cocopah Middle School Hosts U.S. Naturalization Ceremony March 5, 2019
WHAT: U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) naturalization ceremony
WHO: Citizenship candidates from 20 nations – Bosnia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, England, Germany, Haiti, India, Ireland, Jamaica, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Moldova, Nepal, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Russia, Thailand and Togo – will take the U.S. Oath of Allegiance
- USCIS Phoenix Naturalization Section Chief Charles Harrell will administer the Oath of Allegiance to the citizenship candidates
- Remarks will be provided by SUSD Superintendent Dr. John Kriekard and Cocopah Middle School Principal Nick Noonan
- The Cocopah Middle School Jazz Choir will sing the National Anthem
- Cocopah Middle School’s entire 8th grade class of nearly 340 students will attend

ADDITIONAL INFO: Cocopah Middle School was recognized Feb. 28 by the Arizona Department of Education (ADE) as a 2017-2018 Civic Engagement School of Excellence, one of only eight in the state. The designation is the most prestigious of three award categories that make up ADE’s Excellence in Civic Engagement Program (ECEP). In preparation for the March 5 naturalization ceremony at their school, the 8th grade class has been learning about the
naturalization process, the history of immigration to the U.S. and the significance of being a U.S. citizen.
