Laguna’s Next Principal Is One of Its Own
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (March 7, 2024) – At its March 5 meeting, the Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD) Governing Board appointed Krisse Kelly to be Laguna Elementary School’s next principal, beginning July 1.
A longtime resident of the school’s Scottsdale Ranch neighborhood whose own children attended Laguna, Kelly said she’s thrilled to succeed Interim Principal Alice Spingola. “I chose to work here because Laguna is a special place to work, teach, and learn. Every member of our staff treats our students with the utmost respect, care, and love.” -
Coronado High School and Scottsdale Community College Forge Innovative Partnership for Early College Campus
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (March 4, 2024) – Scottsdale Unified School District’s (SUSD) Coronado High School and Scottsdale Community College (SCC) proudly announce a new partnership to establish an Early College Campus at Coronado, located at 7501 E. Virginia Ave., Scottsdale.
“This initiative marks a significant step forward in providing enhanced educational opportunities for our SUSD high school students and aligns with both institutions' commitment to academic excellence, preparing the next generation for success in higher education and the workforce,” said Dr. Scott Menzel, SUSD’s superintendent. -
SUSD to Host Information Fair on Post-High School Special Education Services
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (February 28, 2024) – Families and caregivers seeking information about community services and education options for special education students after high school are invited to attend an information fair next week, hosted by Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD).
The Transition Fair takes place Thursday, March 7, from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. in Room 222 of Scottsdale Community College’s (SCC) Indigenous Cultural Center, 9000 E. Chaparral Rd., Scottsdale. SCC is the new home of SUSD’s Special Education SCORE program, which provides vocational training opportunities to young adults with disabilities up to the age of 22. -
Desert Canyon Elementary School Named AEF® A+ School of Excellence®
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (February 16, 2024) – The Arizona Educational Foundation® has named Scottsdale Unified School District’s Desert Canyon Elementary School as one of its 2024 A+ Schools of Excellence®.
The starting point of Scottsdale Unified’s optional Mandarin Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program, Desert Canyon is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.
Principal Kim Mills says the school is all about community. “We are proud of our inclusive, close-knit family and the robust support and engagement we receive from our community,” she says. “We foster a sense of community and inclusivity as students from diverse linguistic backgrounds come together to learn, grow and become proficient in a second language.” -
Cocopah Middle School Eighth Grader Spells Her Way to SUSD Bee Title
It was 13-year-old Nina Bhatia who emerged as the champion of the January 19 Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD) Spelling Bee, spelling the word “indemnity” correctly.
Among the words she also had to spell were “megaron,” “coccidiosis” and “innards.” How did the Cocopah Middle School eighth grade student prepare for the 2024 Bee? “For the easier words, I usually just skimmed over them and made sure I practiced them,” said Bhatia.
