CTE Month continues, and this time we’re stepping into the kitchen at Chaparral High School!

Hear from Culinary Arts instructor Jack Trier and students Eden Lariego and Nathan Uretzky as they share how Chaparral’s hands-on CTE program prepares students for Arizona’s thriving hospitality and tourism industry.

From foundational culinary skills to industry certifications and dual enrollment college credit, this program turns passion into real-world opportunity.

Description

Hospitality and Tourism is a huge industry in the vast resort state of Arizona! Students looking to pursue careers in the Hospitality industry can begin in our Culinary Arts Program at Chaparral High School. Students learn foundational skills that will serve them well in this experience-focused career field. Students will have the opportunity to earn industry-recognized certifications that will put them at the top of the applicant pile for interviews!
 
  • Open to students in grades 10-12
  • Transportation is provided to Chaparral High School
  • Course is offered on a block schedule (2 periods per day). Students complete full program in one academic year and earn 2.0 credits.
  • Dual Enrollment – Scottsdale Community College (CUL101, CUL 102, CUL103, CUL104)
  • Industry Certification: ServSafe®
  • Technical Standards: azed.gov/cte/ca/

Prerequisite: Students should have a sincere interest in learning to cook and the culinary field.

This program is designed to introduce students to the professional Culinary field where students will learn food safety/sanitation, nutrition, menu planning, food costing, food preparation, and professionalism within the hospitality industry. Students will also learn knife skills, various cooking methods and applying them to a baking and pastry, garde manger, and hot foods. Students will apply their knowledge and skills in a practical dining environment. Students will have the opportunity to become ServSafe Certified.

NOTE: this is a two (2) hour block class. This course leads to industry-recognized certification: ServSafe® Food Production Manager.
