Gifted Cluster Pre-K classes

Kiva, Redfield and Tavan offer gifted cluster Pre-K classes. The  cluster model offers the best of both worlds - a developmental learning environment with typical peers and small group interactions with like-minded peers. Families of incoming Pre-K students may have their child participate in gifted testing. The Wechsler Preschool & Primary Scale of Intelligence (WPPSI-IV) is administered by an SUSD school psychologist. Please call Community Education - 480-484-7900 for information on how to sign up for testing.

The goal with our cluster classes is to include students who have been identified as gifted with typical peers within the same class.

  • Grouping: Gifted children are "clustered" together in a class. We strive for at least 5 students (20% of the class) who have been identified as gifted. Some years we exceed that, some years we have far fewer students who have been identified as gifted.
  • Teaching methods: Strategies that encourage critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving.
  • Socialization: Opportunity for gifted children to interact with intellectual peers.
  • Early identification: Helps recognize and nurture giftedness from an early age.

The cluster model also prepares eligible students for the Comprehensive Gifted Program (CGP) that begins in Kindergarten and is also housed at Kiva, Redfield, & Tavan.
