Groundbreaking Ceremony at Tonalea Middle School for New Boys & Girls Club

 

It was an exciting day at Tonalea when representatives from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale, SUSD, Orcutt-Winslow (architects) and Chasse (construction management) gathered with other members of the community to break ground on what will be a new club on the Tonalea Middle School campus.

After the decision was made to make the Tonalea campus a stand-alone middle school again, an opportunity presented itself to partner with the Boys & Girls Club to renovate a portion of the campus and construct a new gymnasium.  This renovated space will be available to our Tonalea students during the school day and will be operated by the Boys & Girls Club after hours and on weekends.

Of the estimated $15 million needed for the project, more than $9.5 million has already been raised, including a $2.5 million donation from the Bob and Renee Parsons Foundation. Bob Parsons is the founder of GoDaddy, Inc., the Tempe-based Internet domain registrar and website hosting company.  It is a true reflection of what is possible when members of our community come together in support of our students and their success!

Blue Zones @ Hopi and Sequoya

Scottsdale Unified School District is proud to announce that Sequoya and Hopi Elementary schools are its latest to achieve Blue Zones Project Approved™ status, following in the footsteps of Echo Canyon School a year ago and Anasazi and Pima Elementary schools and Cocopah Middle School this school year in pioneering a healthier future for students and families across the district. These milestones are part of SUSD’s broader vision to become a fully certified Blue Zones District, with several more schools actively working toward approval.

The Blue Zones Project is inspired by the research of National Geographic Fellow and New York Times best-selling author Dan Buettner, who discovered pockets around the world where people routinely live healthily and happily to be at least 100 years old. As more schools in the district embark on their Blue Zones journeys, SUSD invites community members, parents, and local organizations to join in supporting this transformative initiative. Together, we can build a healthier, happier Scottsdale for generations to come.
