Scottsdale Unified School District Announces Three Key Leadership Appointments
Scottsdale, Ariz — The Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD) Governing Board has approved three exciting leadership appointments, bringing experienced and student-centered leaders to Cherokee Elementary School and Saguaro High School.
Brittany Walker Named Principal of Cherokee Elementary
Brittany Walker has been appointed as the next Principal of Cherokee Elementary, effective July 1, 2026. Walker brings 15 years of experience in education, including seven years as a principal, most recently serving as Principal of Copper Ridge School in SUSD.
In addition to her professional expertise, Walker is already a member of the Cherokee community as a current parent, offering a unique and personal perspective on the school’s culture and values.
“It is an absolute honor to serve as the new Principal of Cherokee Elementary,” said Walker.
“Cherokee is a community I have chosen for my own children’s education, which makes this opportunity even more meaningful. I look forward to supporting students, staff, and families while continuing the school’s strong tradition of excellence.”
Matthew Georgia Named Principal of Saguaro High School
Matthew Georgia will serve as the next Principal of Saguaro High School beginning July 1, 2026.
Georgia brings 23 years of experience in education, including 14 years in administration. He currently serves as Director of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support in the Phoenix Union High School District and previously led Champion Circle High School as Principal.
Georgia’s background also includes extensive experience in special education, as both a teacher and department leader.
“I am honored to be named the new principal of Saguaro High School,” said Georgia. “It is a privilege to join a community known for excellence in academics, athletics, and the arts. I look forward to building on Saguaro’s strong traditions while supporting every student in becoming their best self”.
Victor “Butch” Goncharoff Named Head Football Coach at Saguaro
The Governing Board also approved Victor “Butch” Goncharoff as the new Head Football Coach at Saguaro High School, ushering in an exciting new era for Sabercat football.
Coach Goncharoff brings an extraordinary record of success to Saguaro, with 206 career wins and just 15 losses. Over the course of his career, he has led teams to 11 state championships in 13 years and finished as state runner-up twice!
“The Saguaro Football Program has a storied tradition filled with great coaches and great players,” said Goncharoff. “I am honored to be part of that tradition. I am excited about the upcoming season and cannot wait to get started.”
Plans for a community “Meet the Coach” event will be announced soon.
“These outstanding leaders bring a wealth of experience, passion, and commitment to student success,” said Superintendent Dr. Scott Menzel. “We are excited to welcome them into their new roles and look forward to the positive impact they will have on our schools and community.”
Current Principals will continue in their roles through the end of the 2025–2026 school year, ensuring a smooth and thoughtful transition.
