Curriculum / Supplemental Materials for Review

SUSD is committed to providing rich learning experiences for all students. 

To supplement district adopted Tier I, core curriculum, teachers and staff are provided with resources defined as supplemental materials.  These materials are board approved, and available for use by teachers to foster greater students' understanding of content and concepts learned in school.  

  • Supplementary Books/Novels - Sets of novels, both fiction and non-fiction, on reserved book list, stakeholder process with rubric used
  • Supplemental Materials - District approved materials, financial support (as applicable), district provided coaching, used at multiple sites

Full Option Science System (FOSS) Next Generation Diversity of Life

The supplemental material, FOSS NextGen Diversity of Life, is an additional unit to the already-adopted SUSD resource, FOSS Science Units. This unit will be utilized in the Accelerated Middle School Science Year 1 course at Mohave Middle School to support the compression of the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade science standards into two years. The Diversity of Life unit aligns with middle school life science standards 7.L1U1.8, 7.L1U1.9, 7.L2U1.12, and 8.L3U1.9. FOSS Units are designed around active investigations that engage students with science concepts and engineering practices.

Sonrisas Spanish Curriculum

Sonrisas offers a comprehensive and engaging Spanish curriculum for students in grades K-5, incorporating songs, stories, art projects, and interactive activities to foster language acquisition and cultural competence. This research-based program is designed to align with language learning standards and provide a fun, immersive learning environment that promotes both communication skills and cultural awareness.  Sonrisas will be utilized at Sequoya Elementary as part of their specials and after school Spanish club. 

Parents/Community Members are welcome to schedule an appointment with the Teaching and Learning Department to view the district approved supplemental instructional resources and materials or may complete a request to view instructional resources and materials google form to schedule an appointment.  ARS 15-102(A)(7).

Mosby’s Textbook for Nursing Assistants

The Arizona Board of Nursing, Nurse Practice Act; Article 8, stipulates that SUSD’s Career and Technical Education(CTE) Nursing training program shall utilize an electronic or paper textbook, corresponding to the certification level of the course, that has been published within the previous five years. CTE is electing to update our SUSD Nursing materials for the fall of 2025, to the latest edition (11th) of the already-in-use, currently approved supplemental book, “Mosby’s Textbook for Nursing Assistants” and accompanying companion student workbook, Copyright: 2025, Publication Date: 12-23-2024, in order to stay current and be in compliance with the Arizona Board of Nursing. As required by law, the 11th edition of the Mosby’s book and companion student workbook, shall be made available for 60-day review.
