Four SUSD Students Among Junior Achievement's "18 Under 18"
Posted by SUSD Communications on 4/21/2020
Four SUSD students help comprise Junior Achievement’s annual “18 Under 18” awards. These awards are characterized by their display of what’s called ‘positive impatience’ and not waiting until they’re adults to make a difference in the world.
Arcadia senior Grace Schlenker has devoted her time to organizing life-defining moments for terminally ill patients in Arizona through a school club, ‘Arcadia Dream,’ which is now part of the Dreamcatcher organization
Chaparral junior Ryan Vakil created ‘From Hearts to Soles,’ a 501(c)(3) organization that collects shoes and shoelaces for children living in poverty worldwide.
Another Chaparral junior, Ethan Scher, has built a re-sale shoe business for high-demand new shoe styles, and Saguaro senior Kayli Battel, president of our Student Advisory Board, helped establish ‘Sisters in STEM,’ to encourage girls of ages 4 to 15 to embrace their interest in math, science, engineering and technology.
All 18 award recipients are good students, exceptionally talented and visionary. We are proud of their collective achievements and especially proud of this quartet of SUSD students!
