Navajo Teacher's Project Earns Intel Grant

Acts of kindness are important, regardless of pandemics, but it seems as if “The Empathy Project” of Navajo Elementary teacher Brandy Wilson’s 5th grade class was clairvoyant.
The Empathy Project is a STEAM-focused, interdisciplinary effort, with students combining what they’re learning from the social-emotional curriculum with research skills, persuasive writing and measuring. They design a pattern and, ultimately, create fabric objects that they sew and donate to a local charity that they have researched and voted to help.
Mrs. Wilson’s classroom Empathy Project has been named one of Intel Corporation’s “40 for 40” STEM grant winners and will receive up to $2,500 to further implement the project.
