Vision Statement

  • To offer meaningful opportunities for all learners to explore and develop skills and traits needed to reach their highest potential as contributors to creating a better and more peaceful world.

Mission Statement

  • Mountainside Middle School provides diverse educational opportunities that foster academic, social and emotional growth, inspiring students to create their future in a global community.

IB Middle Years Programme

  • The IB Middle Years Program provides a framework for students in sixth to tenth grades to become creative, critical, and reflective thinkers. The MYP emphasizes intellectual challenge, encouraging students to make practical connections between their studies and the real world. It stresses the development of skills for communication, intercultural understanding, and global engagement-essential qualities for young people who are becoming global leaders. The MYP framework does not change curricula, alter state standards, nor required impact mandated testing.

The IB Middle Years Program addresses students’ intellectual, social, emotional and physical well-being. It provides students the opportunities to develop the knowledge, attitudes and skills they need to manage complexity and take responsible action for the future. MYP ensures the breadth and depth of understanding through study in eight subject (content) areas, and requires that learners study one world language in addition to their regular language of instruction to support their understanding of their own and others’ cultures. Students in an MYP school participate in community service and are thereby further prepared for future education, the workplace, and life-long learning.

The International Baccalaureate® aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
