Please visit www.susd.org/earlylearning for more information.Open Enrollment process is an opportunity for students who reside outside of Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD) boundaries to enroll in Scottsdale Unified schools, based on availability. Students who live within SUSD boundaries may also use open enrollment to change from their home school. To start the process for open enrollment, fill out the Open Enrollment application listed below. Arizona state law allows students to apply for admission to any public school through open enrollment, based on available classroom space (A.R.S. § 15-816.01).
Acceptance is based on the school’s grade-level and program capacity, and meeting all admission requirements.
SUSD has four "Schools of Choice" (Cheyenne, Echo Canyon, Pueblo, and Scottsdale Online Learning) with no geographic boundaries for enrollment. To enroll in these schools, all families must apply through open enrollment.

Open Enrollment FAQs

What is the difference between open enrollment or regular enrollment?
If you reside within the boundaries of the Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD) and your child attends the neighborhood school he/she is assigned to based on your home address, you do not need to enroll your child from year to year.
Open enrollment is for SUSD students whose parents/guardians wish for them to attend a SUSD school other than the one to which they are geographically assigned.
Open enrollment is also for students who reside outside of SUSD boundaries whose parents/guardians wish for them to attend a SUSD school or to attend a SUSD school other than the one to which they currently open enroll.

How do I locate my home school?

Do I need to reapply for open enrollment each year?
If your student is currently enrolled, you do not need to reapply each year for continued enrollment. The student is considered to be in that school's feeder pattern for middle school and high school.
If your student is currently open-enrolled at a school and you wish to enroll them at your neighborhood school, please complete the Regular Enrollment process.
Once the District approves an open-enrollment application, it is not necessary to reapply for open enrollment to the same school in subsequent years unless the student wishes to change schools or there has been a break in the student's enrollment at the school. The District shall treat open-enrolled students the same as resident students for purposes of continued admission to the school to which the student is open enrolled and admission to the schools into which that school feeds. This includes students who were enrolled in a Scottsdale Unified School District Pre-K program the previous school year. Such students shall be accepted for open enrollment to the school where they attended Pre-K, as long as they complete the Open Enrollment Application by the application deadlines, as well as the enrollment deadlines. Thus, once open-enrolled, students may elect to follow the feeder pattern established by the District for the school to which they open enrolled.
-
Can open enrollment status be revoked?
Yes, a student's open enrollment status can be revoked.
As outlined in SUSD Governing Board Open Enrollment Regulation JFB-R, open enrollment status may be reviewed by the Principal for continuation periodically based upon the following areas:
A. Academic: for high school, a student must be on track to graduate with his or her cohort within 4 years;
B. Discipline: excessive disciplinary/behavioral infractions of student's failure to comply with the Code of Conduct, demonstrating a pattern of behavior that interferes with academic progress;
C. Attendance: excessive absences or tardies that interfere with academic progress.
Recommendations for revocation will be reviewed by the Director of Support Services, and will require documentation of periodic communication with the student/family, including but not limited to, as applicable: attendance contract(s), behavior contract(s), interventions, and meeting and other communications with the student/family.To review SUSD Governing Board Open Enrollment Regulation JFB-R, click https://policy.azsba.org/asba/browse/scottsdale/scottsdale/JFB-R
