DR. MICHAEL HELMINSKI NOMINATED! Our own Dr. H, based on the nomination by the Superintendent and survey feedback from staff and parents, is a finalist for the Circle of Honor award! While the Circle of Honor recognizes the top 1% of Arizona principals, it is more than recognition; it is an induction to an institute of leaders who will commit to sharing their expertise and mentoring to improve school leadership in Arizona. Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other.

Take Your Child to Work – After School is Out
Scottsdale Unified School District and other schools across the Valley encourage parents to take their children to the workplace for a learning experience – after school is out for the summer. Districts around the Valley are recommending June 19 as a preferred date for Take Your Child to Work Day. The national date, April 24, comes at a particularly difficult time for students who are working hard to complete their school work for the year. Taking children to work after the school year ends allows them to learn from their visit to the workplace without missing a single precious day of school. |
SUSD Offers Summer Programs As summer quickly approaches, many parents are beginning to research quality summer programs for their children. Scottsdale Unified School District is offering a variety of summer camps, enrichment programs and academic summer school classes to meet your child's interests and needs.

EVERY YEAR KIVA STUDENTS CELEBRATE READ ACROSS AMERICA WEEK! Jumpstart’s Read for the Record is a national campaign to encourage hundreds of thousands of children and adults to read the same book, The Story of Ferdinand, on the same day - September 20th. Hyatt Hotels & Resorts donated copies of The Story of Ferdinand to local preschool organizations and libraries across the U.S., and also hosted reading events on Thursday, September 20. To encourage online participation among adults and children worldwide, Hyatt and the book’s publisher, Penguin Young Readers Group, created an interactive online version of The Story of Ferdinand available in both English and Spanish. The digital version was created by Pearson’s Family Education network and is available on its site for the month of September, as well as at www.readfortherecord.org and www.Hyatt.com. Jumpstart is a national nonprofit organization that engages preschool children from low-income communities in an intensive early education program. Jumpstart trains adult mentors, primarily college students, to work in yearlong, one-to-one relationships with at-risk children to improve their language, literacy, and social skills.
