Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD) - a non-profit, voluntary
health agency working toward the prevention, treatment, and cure
of rare "orphan" diseases. A wonderful site with tons
of information, support groups, information on orphan drugs and
much more.
The
Center for Health and Health Care in Schools - a nonpartisan
policy and program resource center located at GWU School of Public
Health and Health Services. CHHCS was established to explore ways
to strengthen the well being of children and youth through effective
health programs and health care services in schools.
MEDLINEplus
- a service of the U.S. National Library of Medicine and the National
Institutes of Health. A great site covering health and wellness
topics, diseases, medications, medical dictionaries, tutorials,
pictures, health news and a directory of doctors and hospitals.
RxList
is a commercial site, but has good, reliable information for the
consumer and the medical profession on over 5000 medications.
Adolescent
Directory Online - An award winning electronic guide to
information on adolescent issues for educators, counselors, parents,
researchers, health practitioners, and teens, a service of the Center
for Adolescent Studies at Indiana University.
Bandaids
and Blackboards - Chronic illness/medical problems goes
to school. Areas for kids, teens and adults. Very informative.
Girl
Power! - A national public education campaign sponsored
by the U.S. DHHS to encourage and motivate 9- to 13- year-old girls
to make the most of their lives.
Health
Windows Jr. - Website with health, nutrition and safety
information for kids. Includes an "Online Safety" pledge.
Go
Ask Alice! - A health question and answer Internet service
produced by Columbia University's Health Education Program. Receives
more than 1,500 questions weekly from students, parents, teachers,
professionals, older adults, and others, on every conceivable health
topic including: relationships; sexuality; sexual health; emotional
health; fitness; nutrition; alcohol, nicotine, and other drugs;
and general health. "The mission of Go Ask Alice! is to increase
access to, and use of, health information by providing factual,
in-depth, straight-forward, and nonjudgmental information to assist
readers' decision-making about their physical, sexual, emotional,
and spiritual health." This site is not for younger children.
