In May of 2005, the SUSD Excelling Teaching and Learning Team (ETLT) recruited master teacher trainers to facilitate learning experiences that are designed to implement professional development priorities of the district and school improvement plans within "home" schools and or complexes. These selected teachers will serve as the site liaison to the district Professional Development Team.
The SUSD Master Teachers is responsible for training educators in his/her school. He or she will guide participants through the process of learning to integrate and assess the Essential Performance Objectives by supporting the use of the ATI/Galileo tool. He or she will also present and support additional techniques necessary for a successful learning experience as determined by the school SIP teams. He or she will be someone the teachers can count on for encouragement and guidance throughout the learning experience. Two of the most important traits are enthusiasm about the opportunities offered in the district and a willingness to commit the time necessary to deliver face-to-face training sessions and create a successful learning community.
Becoming a Professional Development Liaison with the District Professional Development Department.
Becoming familiar with the Essential Performance Objectives and helping other teachers embrace them as an integrated part of their teaching and learning.
Attending training sessions to learn how to administer the Galileo benchmark tests.
Presenting a one hour overview to staff members to acquaint them with the Galileo project.
Attending sessions with other Master Teacher Trainers to develop a plan to train all staff who will be giving these benchmarks.
Working with other Master Teacher Trainers (by complex and/or school level) to develop a plan for training staff on using the Essential Performance Objectives in their teaching and learning.
Attending workshops (dates to be determined) to develop skills needed to work with adult learners and strategies to enhance delivery of professional development.
Working with other Master Teacher Trainers in your complex to train all staff in the complex.
Delivering at least four 60-90 minute face-to-face Galileo/Essential Performance Objectives Training Sessions for staff during the school year.
Marketing and recruiting attendees for the training sessions mentioned above.
Securing training sites and necessary equipment for training sessions.
Working with site testing coordinators to develop a testing plan/schedule.
Facilitating regular communication with the SUSD Professional Development Team and fellow teachers regarding
Training needs
Training opportunities
Training outlines and completion requirements
Managing and monitoring staff members using Galileo's progress. Make personal contact with staff members as necessary via e-mail or telephone.
Working with the Master Teacher Trainer Team to evaluate implementation of Galileo and help make appropriate changes.
Providing course completion certificates for training participants
Following guidelines for project evaluation and course completion
Adhering to course designs and timelines
Working with the Professional Development Team to provide additional courses as needed and requested by sites and district administration.
Tracking time spent in the above activities.
