Governing Board approves statement of charges against Ingleside teacher

The SUSD Governing Board on Thursday voted 4-0 to approve a Statement of Charges against Ingleside teacher Kim Youngblood.

“Based on the District’s investigation, Ms. Youngblood has engaged in unprofessional and physically and verbally abusive conduct toward numerous of her students, including hitting and yelling at ELL students for speaking Spanish instead of English. This conclusion is corroborated by the consistent statements of multiple students who approached staff separately and independently,” according to the Statement of Charges.

Ms. Youngblood now has 30 days to appeal the charges against her. Ms. Youngblood was placed on paid administrative leave in April, shortly after the complaints were first brought to the attention of Ingleside Principal Dr. Ruben Lara.

The Scottsdale Unified School District has 33 schools serving about 27,000 students. More than 3,000 persons are employed by the district, including about 1,700 teachers. The district celebrated its 100th anniversary in 1996. Its boundaries include most, but not all of the city of Scottsdale, almost all of the town of Paradise Valley, a section of the city of Phoenix, and a section of the city of Tempe.
