Parent workshop provides insights on risk-taking adolescent years

Scottsdale Unified School District invites parents, teachers, administrators and community members to attend the Parent/Teacher Academy workshop titled How to Help Your Child be "Too Smart to Start" at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 17, in Room 362 at Saguaro High School, 6250 N. 82nd. St., Scottsdale.

This insightful parent-to-parent dialogue/workshop will provide parents with what they need to know on how to help keep their child safe during the risk-taking adolescent years.

The program will be presented by Community Bridges and LINKS Community Collaborative. Community Bridges' mission is to provide the highest quality clinical treatment, community development, family preservation, prevention and education services to assist communities to reduce crime, lower health care costs, decrease dependence on welfare, and minimize "revolving door" use of scarce public services by providing a continuum of care that begins with prevention and continues for individuals and families through treatment and recovery.

LINKS Community Collaborative plays an important and unique role in the community by identifying changing social needs, and then actively forging coalitions among service providers, public agencies and key individuals to ensure that those needs gain attention and are addressed appropriately and cooperatively.

In addition, teachers who attend the presentation can receive Career Ladder hours or staff development points, as well as recertification credits.

Topics for future forums include depression, motivation, talking to teens about sex and bullying. To view the complete Parent/Teacher Academy calendar, please visit SUSD’s Web site at: http://www.susd.org/district/forparents/2004-2005ParentTeacherAcademyCalendar.pdf
