Considering the Curriculum
School district seeks input on K-12 social studies programs
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (September 29, 2005) -- Parents, students, teachers and the community now have the opportunity to help select materials for the K-12 social studies curriculum for the 2006-2007 school year.
“We look forward to the community’s feedback regarding the selection of social studies materials,” said Donna Schell, social studies curriculum specialist. “This decision will affect the scope of learning in the Scottsdale Unified School District for years to come.”
After input is gathered from the individual schools and community, an adoption committee is scheduled to take the recommendations to the Governing Board in November. The Board will also look at adopting supplemental materials for the social studies curriculum. Funding for textbooks and materials comes from the Capital Textbook Fund.
The materials are available for review at the Mohave District Annex Library, which is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is located at 8505 E. Valley View Road, Scottsdale. Comment cards will be available.
