| Scottsdale teacher concert
to benefit students
Scottsdale school district faculty will perform
in a special concert, "Music for the Kids," at 2 p.m.,
Sunday, Nov. 3, at the Scottsdale Center for the Arts, 7380 E. 2nd
St., Scottsdale.
"It is another example of our fine arts teachers
going the extra mile for students," said Pam Krewson, president
of the Scottsdale Schools Arts in Education Council, which is sponsoring
the concert, now in its fourth year.
"We are fortunate in our school community
to have such a commitment to arts in education, from our talented
and dedicated teachers to the volunteer efforts of the members of
the Arts in Education Council," said Dr. Barbara F. Erwin,
superintendent.
Tickets for the concert, which are only available
at the door, are $5 for students, $10 for adults, and $20 for a
family. Proceeds will fund summer music camp scholarships for district
elementary and middle school band and orchestra students from schools
that have 20 percent or more of their enrollment in the free or
reduced lunch program. Last year, 18 students received scholarships
totaling more than $4,000.
"The Scottsdale Schools Arts in Education
Council does so much to help our students," Dr. Erwin said.
"Children who have attended the past concerts delight in watching
their teachers perform."
"The concert is a truly thoughtful and entertaining
gift to our community," Mrs. Krewson noted.
