19th Annual Special Day for Special Kids Event

Scottsdale Sunrise Rotary Club and Scottsdale Unified School District’s Service Learning Program are teaming up for the 19th annual Special Day for Special Kids event at 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 10 at McCormick Stillman Railroad Park, 7301 E. Indian Bend Road, Scottsdale.

"This is another valuable opportunity to partner with the annual Scottsdale Sunrise Rotary event. This marks the 19th anniversary of the Special Day for Special Kids Event. More than 125 SUSD Service Learning students and teachers will be assisting the event serving more than 2,000 special needs students and their families,” said John Baird, director of Community Schools and Service Learning.

Activities at the event include free train rides, carnival activities, carousel rides, balloons, activity booths, clowns, face painting, petting zoo, free food and ice cream and a western show presented by Rawhide. Don’t miss Ronald McDonald, Rural Metro Hook and Ladder #11, the Scottsdale Police and Billy Club. Participants from the Phoenix Suns, Arizona Cardinals, Arizona Diamondbacks and Phoenix Coyotes will attend as schedules permit.

"Shannon Miller, Service Learning teacher at Desert Mountain and Saguaro high schools, is the district liaison for this fantastic project, which is sure to make a lasting impression on everyone who attends. This event is a blast,” added Mr. Baird.

This free event is open to special needs children, underprivileged youths and their families only.
