Scottsdale Unified School
District opens new campus
When the school bell rings on Monday, Dec. 15,
students and staff at both Sierra Vista Academy campuses will walk
through the halls of a new unified campus.
“The new campus is designed to accommodate
today’s growing technology needs for students and teachers
with audio enhancements,” said Sierra Vista Academy Administrator
Nancy Hudson. “This allows for a more direct way to communicate
and provide feedback to the students,” she said.
Sierra Vista Academy is an alternative school
in the Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD), which provides
students with a smaller campus and smaller student/teacher ratios
to increase students’ likelihood of graduating. Currently,
75 to 100 students attend the school; the new campus can accommodate
up to 200 students.
The new 25,000 square-foot school was primarily
built with funds from Student FIRST Deficiency Corrections and funds
approved by the Governing Board. Total cost of the new school was
$3.36 million.
The construction team for the new campus included
Gould Evans & Associates, Phoenix, architect; International
Environmental Corp; Bunney’s Inc., Phoenix; and Jacobs/Chanen,
Phoenix, project manager.
The old Apache School site, which is owned by
SUSD, will continue to be used as the District’s southern
bus yard. The location also houses several tenants, which provide
rental income to the District. The Paiute Center is a City of Scottsdale
facility and will be turned back over to the city.
Dedication for Sierra Vista Academy is scheduled
for February.
Sierra Vista Academy is now located at 7501 E.
Oak Street, Scottsdale. The new phone number is 480-484-7900 and
fax is 480-484-7901.
