SUSD teachers to receive $3 million in pay for performance Scottsdale Unified School District teachers received news today, Thursday, Sept. 5, that all 2001-2002 teachers will receive a pay for performance check based on accomplishments for that school year. Individual amounts, which still are being calculated, will be based on the achievement of goals and evidence of growth in student achievement. Kim Cumby, executive director of Human Resource Services will provide teachers more details next week, including the date for the pay for performance check. A total of roughly $3 million from Prop. 301 revenues will be paid out to 2001-2002 teachers. "In light of NCLB (No Child Left Behind federal legislation) and with the impetus of AIMS and Arizona LEARNS, we are especially pleased that SUSD is once again leading the state with a pay for performance plan that ties school improvement plans to student achievement and rewards teachers for their accomplishments," said Barbara F. Erwin, superintendent. In congratulating the teaching staff for their accomplishments, and the administrative team and classified employees who supported the efforts, Dr. Erwin noted:
"This is a huge achievement and demonstrates that Scottsdale Unified
School District delivers on accountability," Dr. Erwin said. The Scottsdale Unified School District has 33 schools serving about
27,000 students. More than 3,000 persons are employed by the district,
including 1,829 teachers. The district celebrated its 100th anniversary
in 1996. Its boundaries include most, but not all of the city of Scottsdale,
almost all of the town of Paradise Valley, a section of the city of Phoenix,
and a section of the city of Tempe. |
