Middle schools receive $50,000
for intramural sports program
Approximately 5,585 middle school students at
Scottsdale Unified School District will benefit from two grants
totaling $50,000 given to the schools by the Scottsdale
Charros and the City of Scottsdale Parks and Recreation Department, which
will be used to provide intramural sports programs for the students.
Superintendent Dr. John M. Baracy accepted two
checks on Tuesday, Sept. 14, from Scottsdale Mayor Mary Manross
and David Langee, president of the Scottsdale Charros. The intramural
sports program is designed to bring middle school students together
after school to participate in various sporting activities, which
enhance the status of their physical and social well-being.
Registration for the program begins Sept. 20 and
ends Oct. 8. The cost is $15 per session for each season. The league
begins Monday, Oct. 18 at SUSD middle schools. To register, please
call 480-312-7657. Sports being offered this school year include:
- October through November season – boys flag football
and girls basketball
- January through February season – coed soccer and girls
volleyball
- March through April season – boys basketball and girls
softball
