1,872 Scottsdale Unified School District seniors to graduate tonight

It’s the final countdown to graduation for both parents and 1,872 Scottsdale Unified School District seniors. Tonight students will be graduating from Arcadia, Chaparral, Coronado, Desert Mountain and Saguaro high schools and Sierra Vista Academy.

  • Arcadia High School’s graduation is at 8 p.m., 4703 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix.
    This is the school’s 45th graduation ceremony and possibly the last one at with the current buildings – construction to modernize the school will begin this summer. $5.7 million was given to students from the National Merit Scholarships. The school will have its first Sudanese student graduate tonight.
     
  • Chaparral High School’s graduation is at 8 p.m., 6935 E. Gold Dust Ave., Scottsdale.
    The school is raked in the top 4% of all high schools in the nation based on advanced placement test scores. The baseball team won the 4A State Baseball tournament for the third year in a row. This is the first time in the history of Arizona that a team has accomplished this.
     
  • Coronado High School’s graduation is at 8 p.m., 2501 N. 74th St., Scottsdale. This is the school’s 43rd graduation ceremony and possibly the last one at the school with the current buildings – construction to modernize the school will begin this summer.
     
  • Desert Mountain High School’s graduation is at 8 p.m., 12575 E. Via Linda, Scottsdale. Desert Mountain High School is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.  
     
  • Saguaro High School’s graduation is at 7:45 p.m., 6250 N. 82nd St., Scottsdale. Seniors for the vocal choir Voices of Saguaro will be performing “Bridges Over Troubled Waters.” Voices of Saguaro is the only high school choir in Arizona that will be performing at Carnegie Hall in New York on June 12.
     
  • Sierra Vista Academy’s graduation is at 5 p.m., at the Scottsdale Conference Resort, 7700 E. McCormick Parkway, Scottsdale. Please note that the graduation ceremony for Sierra Vista Academy will not be open to the public.

In addition, the Parent Teachers Organizations organize Project Graduation for the seniors immediately following graduation again this year. The philosophy and ideals behind the Project Graduation are safe, sober and spectacular fun. Project Graduation is a united commitment by parents, school and community to conduct an once-in- a lifetime celebration that all graduates will want to attend and stay all night.
