SUSD Governing Board Names New President
Jennifer Petersen takes the reins at Arizona’s Most Excelling District

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (January 11, 2006) – The Scottsdale Unified School District Governing Board elected Jennifer Petersen as President during the regular board meeting on January 10, 2006. Petersen has served on the board as Clerk since 2005.

“I am honored to be a part of this team,” says Petersen. “We have made so much progress in the last year and I look forward to working with the community and the Scottsdale School District family to continue on this path of great success.”

A native of Dallas, Petersen has lived in Scottsdale for 17 years with her husband, Ron. They have three children, all of whom attend Scottsdale schools. A business major at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Jennifer worked as a retail executive for 16 years before deciding to devote her time entirely to volunteering at her children's schools and being an active advocate for education. Jennifer has served on several district committees, site base management teams and acted as PTO President at Anasazi Elementary and Mountainside Middle Schools. Jennifer has also been involved with the National Charity League, Daughters of the American Revolution, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts and other organizations.

Reorganization of the Governing Board occurs once a year at the first meeting in January. Outgoing President Christine Schild thanked the board for their hard work and dedication to Scottsdale’s children during her tenure. Schild, Karen Beckvar, and Dr. Eric Meyer continue to serve on the board.

Board member Molly Holzer was elected Clerk, replacing Petersen.
