Navajo Elementary to host Festival of Cultures on March 18

The Scottsdale Unified School District will celebrate cultural diversity at a Festival of Cultures from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 18, at Navajo Elementary School, 4525 N. Granite Reef Road, Scottsdale.

This fourth annual event is one of many community outreach activities from SUSD’s English Immersion Studies and Native American Education Programs.

Navajo’s Parent Teacher Organization will be selling pizza, popcorn and refreshments. The Coronado Don-cers, Mythos Celtic Duo and Navajo students will provide entertainment. Other events at the festival include Torneo de Ortografia (Spanish Spelling Bee), “Sí se Puede” (Yes, you can achieve your goals) Multicultural Medium Exhibition and Elementary Schools Bookmark Exhibition. The festival is open to the public at no cost.

The Scottsdale Unified School District has 33 schools serving about 27,000 students. More than 3,000 persons are employed by the district, including about 1,700 teachers. The district celebrated its 100th anniversary in 1996. Its boundaries include most, but not all of the city of Scottsdale, almost all of the town of Paradise Valley, a section of the city of Phoenix, and a section of the city of Tempe.
