SUSD Launches High School Evening Classes
The
Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD) is expanding its high school
course offerings to include evening classes, beginning Feb. 4.
"The
move allows the District to provide continuous education for its high
school students who want to or need to take evening classes, in addition
to increasing the revenue stream to the District," said Ann Boyle,
assistant superintendent of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and technology.
The
District also will offer a summer school program for the same reasons,
Ms. Boyle said.
Registration
for SUSD evening classes will be held Jan. 22 through Jan. 30 at all five
high school bookstores and counseling offices. Mail-in registrations must
be postmarked Jan. 25. Registration forms also will be available at the
District's Education Center, 3811 N. 44th St., Phoenix; 602-952-6100.
Course
offerings for the Spring 2002 semester include: algebra I and II; American
history; dance (at Desert Mountain High School only); driver education;
English I, II, III, and IV; geometry, government, world history, and NovaNET.
All classes meet SUSD graduation requirements, except driver education.
The
two-hour classes will be held twice a week at Chaparral, Desert Mountain,
and Saguaro high schools. The semester begins Feb. 4 and runs through
May 2. Tuition is $190 per academic course for District residents, and
$200 for non-residents. The tuition for driver education is $125 for residents
and $135 for non-residents. The tuition for NovaNET is $230, and is offered
for residents only.
Dr.
Mike Wolf, executive director for secondary operations, will serve as
program director for SUSD evening classes. Additional information is available
from his office at 602-952-6168, or on the District's Web site at: www.susd.org
