Scottsdale Unified Hires Peterson for Facility Management Post

Scottsdale, Arizona, June 22, 2005 – The Governing Board for Scottsdale Unified School District approved the recommendation of Mr. David J. Peterson as the new Executive Director for Facility Management for Learners at last night’s meeting. Mr. Peterson replaces Dr. Bill Johnson, who tendered his resignation several weeks ago upon accepting a position with Laveen Elementary School District.

“This transition will be virtually seamless,” stated Superintendent Dr. John M. Baracy. “David will have an immediate and positive presence due to his perfectly matched skill set, education and experience. He can take over the management of our facilities’ projects on day one without any major disruptions or delays.”

Mr. Peterson has been the director of operations for Mesa Public Schools and responsible for all new construction and remodeling for that district for the past 10 years. He has a rich history in school construction and has exemplary credentials - a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy with a major in engineering, an MSCE in civil engineering from Arizona State University, a school business management certificate from Central Arizona College, and is also currently attaining a law degree. He is a well-respected member of the school construction community.

“I am excited about the opportunity to work with the community and staff at Scottsdale Unified. It will be both challenging and rewarding as we move forward to develop and support outstanding facilities for the District. I am proud to be selected as the newest member of the leadership team for Scottsdale Unified,” said Mr. Peterson commenting on his new position with the District.

Dr. Baracy concluded, “In addition, David and Bill know each other well and have worked together before on the Schools Facilities Board. They are both operations professionals and committed to ensuring progress continues on the bond constructions currently underway at Arcadia and Coronado high schools and that a smooth handoff is achieved.”

Mr. Peterson starts with Scottsdale Unified School District on Monday, July 25th.
