Arcadia students to
report for C-SPAN on presidential debate
Three students selected to cover event
for national network
Three seniors from Arcadia High School’s
nationally recognized broadcast communications program will join
the national media in covering the presidential debate in Tempe
next week for the national C-SPAN network.
Seniors Alissa Irei, Seth Rollins and Phil DelReal
will report on the debate for C-SPAN, the national television network
that focuses on government activities. The students will produce
a 10-minute segment for the network about the view first-time voters
have on the presidential campaign.
Arcadia was selected for the program because of
the broadcasting program’s outstanding reputation. Earlier
this year, the program was named one of the five best in the U.S.
at a national high school broadcasting event in Los Angeles. Students
in the program produce a daily newscast for students in the school
on ANN, the Arcadia News Network.
“I’m extremely proud of all three
of these students for how hard they work and for all of the honors
they have received,” said Dave Cornelius, who teaches the
broadcasting communications program at Arcadia.
This is the latest in a number of honors for Irei.
She was selected as one of four national semifinalists in the Channel
One News One Vote Project. In the weeks leading up the election,
she will be keeping a video log and making submissions to the national
news bureau on reactions, thoughts and concerns of teenagers regarding
the candidates, process and issues.
Students at Arcadia may come by their broadcasting
excellence naturally. They are following in the footsteps of one
of the school’s best-known alumni: Academy Award-winning director
Steven Spielberg.
