Cheyenne Drama Club to perform Some Enchanted Evening
Donates proceeds to non-profit organization – Free Arts of Arizona
Thirty-five students in Cheyenne Traditional School’s Drama Club will perform Some Enchanted Evening, at 6 p.m., on Friday, April 15, in the cafeteria at Cheyenne Traditional School, 11130 E. Cholla St., Scottsdale.
“Students will be performing three plays centered around reading and learning, including The Book Brigade by Paula Thomas, Mother Goose Gumshoe and Once Upon a Fairy Tale by Christina Hamlett,” said Heather Christie, a fifth grade teacher at Cheyenne.
Christie and Betsy Driver, a master’s degree candidate in theater at Arizona State University, will direct the students, who are in kindergarten through fifth grade.
The event is free to the public. Donations will be accepted on behalf of Free Arts of Arizona on the night of the performance. Free Arts of Arizona is a nonprofit organization that provides creative arts programs for abused, homeless and at-risk children as a means of hope and healing.
“In choosing to teacher-sponsor this club, I wanted to provide our students with an opportunity to learn about theatre in a fun way while learning to help others. Our school decided to donate to this organization, so that our Cheyenne students could help other students in their community foster a love and learning for the theatre and other arts. The drama club has been a positive and creative experience for our students, and we simply wanted to help provide this opportunity for others as well,” said Christie.
Cheyenne’s Drama Club is sponsored by Cheyenne's PTO. Mrs. Cindy Breen and Mrs. Donna Binsfeld, Cheyenne parents and PTO members, helped to create Cheyenne's Drama Club.
