Chaparral Assistant Principal Will Step Into Principal Post July 1

Mary Lou Muccino, currently an assistant principal at Chaparral High School, will step into the principal position on July 1. The Governing Board approved the transfer on May 21. Mrs. Muccino replaces John Kriekard, who is retiring from SUSD effective June 30. Dr. Kriekard has been with SUSD since 1979.

Mrs. Muccino began her career with Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD) in 1976 as a special education teacher at Saguaro High School. In 1995 Mrs. Muccino moved to Chaparral High School as an assistant principal, where she has been responsible for the maintenance of academic records and registration of students; has acted as an administrative leader for all classes in the area of attendance, discipline, and educational concerns; has had shared responsibility for teacher evaluations; has supervised athletic and evening activities, campus security, and facilities; has coordinated special education and Nova Net; has been responsible for the senior honors program, senior breakfast, and graduation; and has worked with the parent organization.

Mrs. Muccino has a master's degree in special education from St. Joseph College in West Hartford, Connecticut, and a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from Marymount College in Tarrytown, New York. She also has supervisory and principal certifications from the University of Phoenix.
