Chaparral Assistant Principal Will Step
Into Principal Post July 1
Mary Lou Muccino,
currently an assistant principal at Chaparral High School, will step into
the principal position on July 1. The Governing Board approved the transfer
on May 21. Mrs. Muccino replaces John Kriekard, who is retiring from SUSD
effective June 30. Dr. Kriekard has been with SUSD since 1979.
Mrs. Muccino began
her career with Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD) in 1976 as a
special education teacher at Saguaro High School. While at Saguaro she
also served for eight years as chair of the special education department,
and in 1994 she became an acting assistant principal at the school.
In 1995 Mrs. Muccino
moved to Chaparral High School as an assistant principal, where she has
been responsible for the maintenance of academic records and registration
of students; has acted as an administrative leader for all classes in
the area of attendance, discipline, and educational concerns; has had
shared responsibility for teacher evaluations; has supervised athletic
and evening activities, campus security, and facilities; has coordinated
special education and Nova Net; has been responsible for the senior honors
program, senior breakfast, and graduation; and has worked with the parent
organization.
Mrs. Muccino has
a master's degree in special education from St. Joseph College in West
Hartford, Connecticut, and a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from
Marymount College in Tarrytown, New York. She also has supervisory and
principal certifications from the University of Phoenix.
Chaparral High School
is one of five high schools in the Scottsdale Unified School District.
Some 1,800 students attended during the 2001-2002 school year.

The Scottsdale Unified School District has 33 schools serving 27,025
students. More than 3,000 persons are employed by the district, including
1,829 teachers. The district celebrated its 100th anniversary in 1996.
Its boundaries include most, but not all of the city of Scottsdale, almost
all of the town of Paradise Valley, a section of the city of Phoenix,
and a section of the city of Tempe.
