It’s 21 For Scottsdale!
Scottsdale Unified Schools excel at an all-time high
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (October 14, 2005) – Scottsdale Unified School District is leading the way in Arizona education for the third year in a row as 21 of its 33 schools receive the state’s highest ranking.
21 schools have received the excelling label, 4 have been ranked highly performing, 5 performing plus, and 3 performing.
“This is a milestone for Scottsdale,” says Superintendent Dr. John M. Baracy. “This is the third consecutive year we have the state’s most excelling schools. We are so proud of our students, teachers, administrators and parents. This was a team effort that led us to victory.”
The Department of Education ranks schools as Excelling, Highly Performing, Performing Plus, Performing, Under Performing and Failing. Ratings are based on student performance on state tests and graduation and dropout rates. Just last month, all of Scottsdale’s 33 schools also made academic “Adequate Yearly Progress” under No Child Left Behind.
Excelling Schools: Anasazi, Aztec, Cherokee, Cheyenne Traditional, Cochise, Copper Ridge, Desert Canyon, Hopi, Kiva, Laguna, Pima, Sequoya, and Zuni Elementary Schools.
Cocopah, Copper Ridge, Desert Canyon, and Mountainside Middle Schools.
Arcadia, Chaparral, Desert Mountain, and Saguaro High Schools.
Highly Performing Schools: Tavan Elementary School; Arcadia Neighborhood Learning Center; Ingleside and Mohave Middle Schools.
Performing Plus Schools: Navajo, Pueblo, Tonalea and Yavapai Elementary Schools; Coronado High School.
Performing Schools: Hohokam Elementary School; Supai Middle School; Sierra Vista Academy (3-8), Sierra Vista Academy (High School).
