Scottsdale “Adopts-a-District” in Devastated Gulf Region
Relief Fund to assist with increasing enrollment outside of New Orleans
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (September 20, 2005) – Scottsdale Unified is lending a helping hand to a school district directly affected by Hurricane Katrina.
The Terrebonne Parish School District, about 60 miles outside of New Orleans, had several of its 42 schools impacted by the storm. However, many of Terrebonne’s schools were spared and now students from neighboring parishes are looking to join the district. This has created a desperate and immediate need for supplies.
Scottsdale Unified School District has now officially “adopted” Terrebonne and created an account with Wells-Fargo which will directly benefit the district.
“We are so proud to support our neighbors in Louisiana,” says Dr. John Baracy, Superintendent of Scottsdale Unified School District. “Keeping kids educated in times of crisis is not an easy task, but a necessary one.”
The Terrebonne District has received more than 1,000 new students in just the past few weeks. Uniforms, shoes, clothing, snacks, books and other school supplies are all top priorities.
Anyone in the community can donate by visiting a Wells-Fargo branch and referencing account # 700 038 1660, the Terrebonne Parish Katrina Fund.
All funds placed in this special account go directly to the Terrebonne Parish School District.
