Meeting of April 7, 2009 BOARD BRIEFS

Dr. David Peterson, assistant superintendent for Operations, presented information regarding the exercise of DMB Property Purchase Option to the Governing Board. During the master planning of the Copper Ridge Schools and the acquisition of the property from the developer, DMB, there was an option to acquire 18.5945 acres. The designated property is recorded as DC Ranch S parcel. The option to acquire DC Ranch S parcel must be exercised no later than May 18, 2009. If the District acquires the parcel and does not undertake any improvements on the parcel within 10 years of acquisition, the District may have to re-convey the parcel back to DC Ranch. The exercise of the option will require payment of $10 by the District to DC Ranch and the delivery of written notice of exercise. Michelle Marshall, general counsel, presented recommendations to the Board regarding revisions of Governing Board Policies – section D – Fiscal Management, Section I – Instructional Program and Section J – Students to align with ASBA model policies, ASBA advisories and District needs. Those policies are:

  • Policy DID– Inventories
  • Policy DIE – Audits/Financial Monitoring
  • Policy DJE – Bidding Purchasing Procedures
  • Policy DN – School Properties Disposition
  • Policy IKF – Graduation Requirements
  • Policy JEB – Entrance Age Requirements
  • Policy JFAA – Admission of Resident Students
  • Policy JFABC – Admission of Transfer Students
  • Policy JRCE – Student Biometric information

In other action, the Governing Board:

  • Approved the Proclamation of Support Staff Week, April 19-25, and April 22 as Support Staff Day.
  • Approved the Proclamation for National Teacher Appreciation Week, May 3-9.
  • Approved the Proclamation of National School Nurse Day, May 6.

  • Accepted gifts valued at $26,820.92. The gifts were received from DMHS PTO, Hopi PTA, American Heart Association, APS, FNB Nevada, The Professional Exchange Club of Scottsdale, Riding for Reading, Target and Wells Fargo.

The next two regular Governing Board meeting are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on May 5 and June 2 at the Education Center.
