Meeting of January 13, 2009 BOARD BRIEFS

Principals Jim Selgo, Walter Chantler and Mike Duff presented an update on the activities that have occurred to date and future plans for their schools, based on the Governing Board’s December 2, 2008 decision to consolidate Aztec and Zuni schools to the current Zuni site and to move Cheyenne to the Aztec site. Katy Cavanagh, co-interim superintendent, updated the Board on the continued program planning from the September 16, 2008 Facility Presentation. On September 16, the Administration presented a revised plan for facility utilization that included information for proposed programs across the District. At today’s Board meeting, the presentation provided updates on the continuing program planning for Cocopah, and Hohokam. Future program proposals to include Cherokee, Laguna, Mountainside, Supai and Mohave will be presented to the Governing Board at later dates. In other action, the Governing Board:

  • Elected Karen Beckvar as president and Dr. Eric Meyer as clerk for the 2009 year.
  • Accepted gifts valued at $115,680.95. The gifts were received from Arcadia PTO, Cheyenne PTO, Cochise APT, Hopi PTO, Ingleside PTO, Sequoya APT, Arcadia Dad’s Club, Desert Mountain IB Parent Association, Saguaro Lady Sabercats, Don Chiappetti, HP – Gifts in Kind International, Martin and Wendy Kaye, Metal Management, C.C. Nguyen, Rodel Charitable Foundation, Scottsdale Charros, SUSD Foundation, Target, Wells Fargo and Wells Fargo Foundation.

The next regular Governing Board meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on January 27 at the Education Center.
