Meeting of October 2, 2007 BOARD BRIEFS

Katy Cavanagh, assistant superintendent for excelling teaching and learning, updated the Governing Board on the strategies to achieve 33 Excelling schools. Kevin Price, internal auditor, updated the Board with a report from the Audit Committee as requested at the August 7th Governing Board meeting. He provided a formal presentation of the audit planed, shared results of the risk assessment audit, provided an exit strategy for current projects and present a revised job description. The presentation is available on the District’s Web site at: http://www.susd.org/district/govboard/meetings.cfm.

Clif McKenzie, executive director of exceptional customer experiences; Jessica Sanchez, staff attorney; and Roosevelt Lofton, athletic director; presented highlights of revisions to the High School Athletic Guidebook for Board review. The Athletic Guidebook will be brought back as a Consent Agenda Item on the November 13th Agenda. In other action, the Governing Board:

  • Approved the Proclamation for Administrators’ Week, October 14-20, 2007.
     
  • Approved the renewal IGA with the City of Phoenix for School Resource Officers.
     
  • Accepted gifts valued at $260,106. The gifts were received from Anasazi PTO, Arcadia PTO, Desert Canyon Elementary PTO, Friends of ANLC, Hopi PTA, Ingleside PTO, Arcadia Pride, Arcadia Football Boosters, Chaparral Band Aides, Chaparral Diamondback Booster Club, Desert Mountain Players, Saguaro Choir Boosters, James Croneberger, First Lego League Science, Honeywell, Pagemill Partners, Rodel Foundation, Scottsdale Pop Warner, Softmax and Wells Fargo.

The next three regular Governing Board meetings are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on November 13, November 27 and December 18 at the Education Center.
