Superintendent Dr. John M. Baracy presented a report on options from the Superintendent’s Blue Ribbon Advisory Council. The Governing Board directed Dr. Baracy to bring options to them regarding the use of current facilities and addressing the issues regarding neighborhood schools for all students. After months of review by the Superintendent’s Blue Ribbon Advisory Council and input from the Learning Leadership Team and other school principals, Dr. Baracy presented options for the Board to begin discussions on the feasibility of those options. Public forums will be held in each complex for input from the communities. At the May 6th Governing Board meeting, Dr. Baracy will report the results of those community forums.
In other action, the Governing Board:
- Tabled the expansion of Phased Retirement Programs – Smartschoolsplus.
- Accepted gifts valued at $36,944. The gifts were received from Cheyenne, Cochise APT, Hopi PTA, Mountainside PTO, Desert Mountain Band Boosters, APS, Vanessa Berg, Dan Corrigan, Thelma Edson, Steve Lingol, Oasis Institute, Mark Sansbury, School Pop, Verizon, Wachovia and Wells Fargo.
The next two regular Governing Board meetings are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on March18 and April 15 at the Education Center.
