Meeting of February 13, 2007 BOARD BRIEFS

David Peterson, chief financial officer and chief of facilities management for learners, presented information about a Capital Override to the Governing Board. During the presentation, Mr. Peterson touched on the following topics: school furniture and equipment, classroom instructional materials, playground improvements, fine arts equipment, athletic equipment, school maintenance equipment and technology. Additionally, Mr. Peterson presented information on a Maintenance and Operations Budget Override Renewal to the board. In other action, the Board:

  • Approved the proposed calendars for 2007-08, 2008-09, 2009-10, 2010-11 and a template of subsequent calendars through 2017.   • Approved Pueblo Elementary School’s Foreign Language Immersion program for the 2007-08 school year.
     
  • Approved the classified classifications and the compensation study developed by Fox Lawson and Associates. Human Capital would like to implement the new classified classifications effective July 2007. The District will be requesting funding from the Governing Board for the implementation of associated salary structure, as appropriate, as part of the District’s annual Budget Meet and Confer process.
     
  • Approved additional services to Orcutt/Winslow Partnership for architect and engineering services in the amount of $40,000 at Chaparral High School. Additional services are required for the Chaparral High School project, including special structural inspections and an increase in reimbursements.
     
  • Approved additional services to DLR Group for architect and engineering services in the amount of $138,130 at Desert Mountain High School. $96,130 will be totally funded by Adjacent Ways, and $42,000 will be funded by Bond and Adjacent Ways. The following additional services are required: boundary topographic survey, civil engineering, project damage report, storm water pollution prevention and existing facilities.
     
  • Approved additional reconstruction services for Coronado High School in the amount of $435,675. The change order for additional required work is based on a final City of Scottsdale review and plan modifications. The following services are required: concrete, masonry, structural steel, roofing, doors, frames, hardware, framing and drywall, HVAC, fire sprinklers, plumbing and electrical.
     
  • Approved to revise prior authorization of Middle and High School Wellness Policy Guidelines.
     
  • Accepted gifts valued at $56,347. The gifts were received from Desert Mountain High School’s Yearbook Club, C.H.A.P.T.S., Cochise APT, Friends of ANLC, Hopi PTA, Sequoya APT, Arcadia Little League, Chaparral Vocal Music Booster Club, The 18 Society Foundation, Arizona Commission on the Arts, Dr. Donald Chiapetti, CIGNA Healthcare, Mr. Feldman, Ann Harris, Insight Bowl, Mr. and Mrs. Dirk Koetter, Katherine Martin, Kathy Morales, The Prudential Foundation, Roger’s Corporation, SRP’s Employee Recreational Association, Target, Michelle and Rolf Toller, Wells Fargo and Wells Fargo Foundation.

A Work/Study Governing Board meeting regarding High School Programs is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Feb. 27 at the Education Center. The next regular Governing Board meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m. on March 6 at the Education Center.
