Meeting of June 19, 2007 BOARD BRIEFS

The Governing Board approved the District’s FY07-08 budget as presented, and called for a public hearing and Board meeting for July 2 at 11:30 a.m. in the Board Room at the Education Center for the purpose of presenting for adoption the 2007-2008 proposed budget for the consideration of the residents and taxpayers of the District. The presentation is available on the District’s Web site at: http://www.susd.org/district/govboard/meetings.cfm.

Tori Trahan, health services coordinator, representing the SUSD Wellness Committee, provided the Governing Board with a brief presentation on the committee’s recommendations for the District’s Wellness Regulations and the progress made by the committee in meeting Governing Board Goals related to Student Wellness. The presentation is available on the District’s Web site at: http://www.susd.org/district/govboard/meetings.cfm.

Kim Clark, general counsel, discussed with the Board Policy JL – Student Wellness. To ensure the health and well-being of all students and comply with state and federal guidelines, the Governing Board shall adopt a formal policy concerning Student Wellness. The District will strive to establish and monitor school environments that promote healthy eating and physical activity. The policy will be brought back as a Consent Agenda Item on the August 14 Agenda.

Additionally, Ms. Clark presented revisions to Flyer Policy KHB – Distribution/Display of Communications of School Related Organizations. The only substantive change to the policy is the elimination of the rule prohibiting school related organizations from including their written materials in any advertising or marketing materials that the schools themselves would be prohibited from distributing. The policy is also being revised to reflect that all flyers are to be approved by the Legal department instead of the Communications and Marketing department. The policy will be brought back as a Consent Agenda Item on the August 14 Agenda.

Ms. Clark also presented revisions to Flyer Policy KHC – Distribution/Display of Promotional Materials of Outside Organizations. The administration is recommending a change to the policy concerning the distribution of informational material by outside organizations to reflect that all such materials must be approved by the Legal Department instead of the Communications and Marketing department. The policy will be brought back as a Consent Agenda Item on the August 14 Agenda.

  • Approved revisions of Policy CBI – Evaluation of the Superintendent.

  • Approved the Scottsdale Support Personnel Association (SSPA) Employment Agreement for FY2007-2008.
