BOARD BRIEFS |
Kevin Price, internal auditor, presented the Governing Board with the Internal Auditing Plan for the 2005-2006 school year as discussed with the Auditing Committee. The presentation is available on the district’s Web site at: http://www.susd.org/district/govboard/meetings.htm. The item will be brought back as an Action Item at the December 6 Board meeting.
Board members Jennifer Peterson and Dr. Eric Meyer along with Kim Clark, general counsel, updated the other Governing Board members on the progress their committee made toward establishing Board Goals. Goals discussed were Provide Educational Leadership, Promote Equitable Opportunities, Improve Community Relations, Improve Inter-District Communications, Fiscal Responsibility and Promote Accountability. In other action, the Board:
- Voted 5-0 to approve the three-year implementation of the campus security and physical safety of students plan. The Facilities Management for Learners Department has completed a through review and analysis of the site security at all elementary schools within SUSD. Additionally, Ingleside and Mohave middle schools have been looked at. The project is funded utilizing Building Renewal dollars. - Voted 5-0 to approve the 2005-2006 Building Renewal Plan. The presentation is available on the district’s Web site at: http://www.susd.org/district/govboard/meetings.htm.
- Voted 4-1 to approve the Superintendent Evaluation Policy and Instrument CBI and CBI-E. The evaluation will be distributed to all members of the site councils, president of the Scottsdale parent Council, presidents of all three employee associations, all department heads who directly report to the superintendent, the mayors of Scottsdale and Phoenix, the police chiefs of Scottsdale and Phoenix and one community college representative.
- Tabled the approval to purchase mailing system through GSA Contract.
- Tabled the award of an RFP for lobbying services.
- Approved the authorization of additional services to Orcutt/Winslow Partnership for architect and engineering services for Chaparral High School Bond Project in the amount of $27,800. The money will used for underground utility locating services and update site survey.
- Approved the increase in design fees for DLR Group based on the final GMP of the Coronado High School reconstruction Project for softball fields - $34,684, and building reconstruction - $447,067.
- Approved the increase to prior Board authorization for Special Needs Student Transportation Services to American Pony Express and Bersan Associates for an amount of $180,000 for a total of $200,000 for the fiscal year 2005-2006.
- Approved the revisions to Scottsdale Unified School District’s Facility Rentals Policy Handbook.
- Approved the revisions to Policy and Regulation DIE and DIE-R Audits/Financial Monitoring.
- Approved revisions to Policy JFB- Open Enrollment.
- Accepted gifts valued at $84,410. The gifts were received from Arcadia Yearbook Club, Desert Mountain Yearbook Club, Saguaro Lettermen’s Club, Yavapai Student Council, C.H.A.P.T.S., Copper Ridge Middle PTO, Desert Canyon Elementary PTO, Desert Mountain PTO, Mountainside PTO, Sequoya APT, Tavan PTA, Tonalea PTO, Mountainside Band Boosters, Athletic Aces Club, Jane Combs, Chad Alison Designs, Coronado Foundation for the Future, Mary Donnelly, Exxon Mobile, Rick and Joni Munson, N.A.I.F.A., Reading is Fundamental, Leslie and Jerry Roberts, Janelle Rossignol, Scholarship America, Target, Carol Van Diest and Wells Fargo Foundation.
A Governing Board Retreat is scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday, November 18, at the Education Center. The next regular Governing Board meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m., Tuesday, December 6, at the Education Center.
