Meeting of June 6, 2006 BOARD BRIEFS

The Governing Board voted to approve the resolution to place a Capital Override Ballot on the November 2006 Election in the amount of $11,800,000 per year for a period of 7 years. The Board has set goals for Technology, remolded high schools, maintenance vehicles, playgrounds, school furniture and equipment, fine arts, athletic equipment and teacher materials. Kevin Price, internal auditor, provided the Governing Board with an update on the Audit Committee’s progress to–date regarding the status of the Audit Plan and 100th day numbers. The presentation is available on the district’s Web site at: http://www.susd.org/district/govboard/meetings.htm.

Additionally, Katy Cavanagh, executive director of middle schools and excelling teaching & learning, provided the Board with an update from the Wellness Committee’s Curriculum Sub-Committee. The presentation included summer work, implementation and future considerations. The presentation is available on the district’s Web site at: http://www.susd.org/district/govboard/meetings.htm. The item will be brought back at the June 20th Board meeting as an Action Item.

In other action, the Board:

  • Approved Change Order #1 to the Coronado High School Softball Field project constructed by A&P Construction in the amount of $20,347.
  • Awarded the Saguaro High School Construction Manager at Risk Reconstruction Project to D.L. Withers for a final GMP price $47,000,000. The presentation is available on the district’s Web site at: http://www.susd.org/district/govboard/meetings.htm.
  • Approved the Governing Board Ethics Policy BCA as presented at the April 11 and amended at the May 9 Board meetings.
  • Approved the Intergovernmental Agreement with Maricopa County and SUSD for Head Start Program.
  • Accepted gifts valued at $93,597. The gifts were received from Desert Mountain Band Boosters Arcadia Pride, C.H.A.P.T.S., Cocopah APT, Copper Ridge Middle School PTO, Coronado Foundation, Hopi APT, American Association of University Women, Annonymous, Don Chiappetti, Revecca Dixon, Dan Harkins, Laura Holgate, Intel Foundation, Macerich Management Co., Wachovia Foundation, David Wachs, Wells Fargo Foundation and Westcor.

The next Regular Governing Board meeting is at 5 p.m., Tuesday, June 20, at the Education Center.
