BOARD BRIEFS |
Cathy Rivera, executive director of elementary schools and excelling teaching & learning; Carl Hurlburt, executive director of human capital; Marilee McCracken, principal at Sequoya Elementary School; and Walt Chantler, principal at Zuni Elementary School, presented the Governing Board information regarding reinstating some elementary school assistant principal to full-time status. The proposal supports eight Board adopted goals. The cost to reinstate full-time assistant principals at all elementary schools is approximately $428,678, which includes benefits and insurance. Funding sources currently being explored and may include a combination of M&O, Community Schools and Grants funding.
In 2002, some elementary school assistant principals were reduced to half-time status during budget cuts.

Also, Kim Clark, general counsel, presented a discussion to the Board regarding Policy DIEA- Evaluation of Internal Auditor. The item will be brought back as a Consent Agenda Item at the March 7 Board meeting.
In other action, the Board:
- Approved the Intergovernmental Agreement with the Town of Paradise Valley, City of Scottsdale and Scottsdale Unified School District to share the use of Kiva Elementary School’s athletic fields and other recreational amenities, as well as the associated maintenance responsibility.
- Approved the Intergovernmental Agreement between SUSD and Arizona State University for the Superintendent’s Blue Ribbon Advisory Council.
- Approved to increase prior Board authorization for the purchase of additional Special Education Services through a GPPCS contract issued by Washington Elementary School District for an amount of $300,000 for a total not to exceed $600,000 for the 2005-2006 fiscal year.
- Approved to increase prior Board authorization for the purchase of additional Special Education Services through a GPPCS contract issued by Tempe Elementary School District for an amount of $200,000 for a total not to exceed $400,000 for the 2005-2006 fiscal year.
- Accepted gifts valued at $65,373. The gifts were received from Hohokam Student Council, Pima Student Council, Saguaro Lettermens Club, Anasazi, Arcadia PTO, Copper Ridge Elementary School PTO, Desert Canyon Elementary School PTO, Desert Mountain PTO, Pima PTO, Tonalea PTO, Desert Mountain Band Boosters, David and Debra Butterworth, Chaparral Christian Church, Donald Chiappetti, City of Scottsdale, Dorian Photography, Nawette Erickson, Intel Foundation, Prudential Foundation, James P. Schoenberger, Jane Ann Schowengerdt, Scottsdale Charros, Siemens, Amy Silverman, Ginger Walker and Baz Winsor.
The next two Governing Board meeting are scheduled for 5 p.m., Tuesday, March 7, in the Auditorium at Mountainside Middle School, 11256 N. 128th St., Scottsdale and Tuesday, March 28, at the Education Center, 3811 N. 44th St., Phoenix.
